YAMAHA SG-455SG 14" x 5 1/2" STEVE GADD SIGNATURE SEAMLESS BRASS SNARE DRUM Collectors, players, Steve Gadd fans, this is a mint condition first issue Yamaha Steve Gadd Signature Seamless Brass Snare Drum which, due to the expense of making this type shell, is no longer in production. Not that many of these first issue drums were made and this one is No. 0218 (which makes it built around 1996). These drums occasionally come up on ebay, but not one in this condition. Now I know different people have their idea of what mint is, so I'll let the pictures tell you the condition. As far as I'm concerned, and I'm very anal, the drum is almost new looking and if there are any scratches on the shell, they are very, very, very, very (get it, very) minute and would only be seen if you looked with a magnifying glass. So in other words, for a drum that's over 14 years old, I think it's as close to new/mint as you can get!!! It is a Black Nickel Alloy over Brass Snare Drum with Black Powder Coated 2.3 mm Triple Flanged Steel Hoops. It has a Brand New, never been played, Remo Powerstroke 3 on the Batter Side, a Remo Diplomat Hazy Snare on the Resonant Side with 20 Strand Snappy Snares. Even if you're a Steve Gadd fan or not, this is one of the BEST sounding Brass Snare Drums on the market! Now what makes this drum so unique and rare is that: 1) As far as I know, it is the only seamless 14" x 5 1/2" Brass Shell on the market. 2) Yamaha does not make this model anymore (and they don't make any seamless Brass Snare Drums) 3) The Brass Shell has a 45-degree Snare Bed. The new version Gadd Models have a 30-degree Snare Bed. 4) The stellar condition. As I'm sure you're aware, a seamless shell just sounds better than one with a seam and because of the limited number of these made, this one will just continue to go up in value for every year that passes. In September of 2009, I sold a similar condition first issue Manu Katche Seamless Brass Signature Snare Drum for $500.00.
