In 1950, Katsumi Yanagisawa founded Pearl Drums. They began manufacturing music stands, but quickly grew to include drum kits, marching drums, timpani, Latin percussion instruments, stands, accessories and cymbals. In 1957, the company began exporting worldwide. As the popularity of rock-n-roll music was on the rise, so did the demand for drum kits. In 1961, Pear built a 15,000 square foot factory in Japan to keep up with the demand of snare drums and full drum kits. The factory produced drum kits for more then 30 different brands. Today, Pearl’s world famous factory includes 5 different sites, and handles almost all the output of Pearl Drum’s products.
Pearl Drums have a very high standard for their snare drums. They were the first in the industry to produce valiant and creative drum kits. The shells were made of fiberglass. That helped make a varied pitch line for the different drums. Pearl is known for their Superior Shell Technology, a.k.a. SST. Pearl uses hand selected wood, and then presses it into a perfect cylinder. This creates optimum sound. Pearl Snare Drums are no exception to the high quality standards set by pearl.
