DW, or Drum Workshop, opened up a small teaching studio in southern California in 1972. The studio offered private lessons, and monthly workshops. But, in order to make ends meet, DW started manufacturing drum sticks, and seats, and grew to include tools and other drum hardware. As the company grew, so did their workshop. They started to offer good quality snares and drum kits. Tommy Lee, of Motley Crue, loved the sound so much that he used their drums on some of his tours.
DW offers several different series of snare drums. The Collectors Series offers eight different snare drums. They include All-Maple Snare, All-Birch Snare, Acoustic Equalizer, Super Solid, Solid Stave, Edge, Solid Shell, and Bamboo. The complete line of wood snare drum has something for everyone. There are different sizes to choose from, which offeres a wide range of depth and warmth to choose from. The Acoustic Equalizer is an 6x14" collector drum that has 6-ply reinforced hoops. It also has heavy-gauge flanged counterhoops, and True Tone snare wires. It has a great rich snap, and is beautiful to boot.
DW also include a series of metal snares. Their also available in a wide variety of width and depth, which means you'll be able to find the sound you're looking for. You can find snares in Copper, Brass, Aluminum, Bronze, and Steel. They all come in a "Knurled" or smooth finish, or a "Polished" or shiny finish. These snare drums are unsurassed in tonal consistency and featre a Delta ball bearing throw-off, and have a more focused sound. They offer a whole new dimension of snap.
